Huawei
Huawei covers everything from fiber to storage: CloudEngine switches, AirEngine Wi-Fi, NetEngine routers, HiSecEngine firewalls and OceanStor storage, with eKitEngine for SMEs. Its Digital Power arm sells FusionSolar: SUN2000 inverters and LUNA2000 batteries. In this region it is common on telecom and public-sector projects.

Who it suits
Public-sector projects and new buildings that want core, Wi-Fi, firewall and storage from one vendor on one quotation, and buildings that want FusionSolar solar with batteries.
Overview
Huawei today
Huawei is a privately held Chinese company headquartered in Shenzhen and owned by its employees. Beyond phones and mobile-network equipment, its Huawei Enterprise arm sells organizations everything from fiber to storage. Its enterprise networking range is now marketed under the Xinghe Intelligent Network name. Note that Huawei's x86 server business was sold in 2021 and now operates as xFusion.
How the product families fit together
- CloudEngine: S series switches for the campus and CE series for the data center.
- AirEngine: Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 access points, including outdoor models.
- NetEngine: routers, from the AR series for branches up to large carrier-class routers.
- HiSecEngine: next-generation firewalls with IPS and application control.
- OceanStor: storage, including the all-flash OceanStor Dorado.
- eKitEngine: a simpler, lower-cost line for SMEs.
- iMaster NCE: management and analytics for switches, APs and gateways from one place. It can run on your own servers, so management data stays inside the organization. That matters to many government users who don't want network data sitting in a foreign cloud.
Licensing
CloudEngine S switches use the N1 model: a perpetual licence (Foundation or Advanced) sold together with a term SnS (Software Subscription and Support) contract that gives you software upgrades and support. Core switches require the Advanced package. Ask for quotations that list licences and SnS as separate lines.
Huawei fits public-sector projects, new buildings and organizations that want core, Wi-Fi, firewall and storage from one vendor on one quotation. In this region it is common on telecom and government projects.
FusionSolar: solar and storage from Huawei
The Huawei Digital Power arm sells solar under the FusionSolar name, separate from the networking line and with a Thai-language website. SUN2000 inverters run from home models (such as the MAP0 hybrid series) to three-phase units for factory roofs. The LUNA2000-S1 home battery comes in roughly 5–21 kWh per stack, and LUNA2000-215 is an outdoor battery cabinet for commercial sites. SUN2000 optimizers fit under each panel, helping partly shaded roofs and giving panel-level data. Everything is monitored and configured in the FusionSolar app, with a SmartLogger as the site controller on commercial systems.
Strengths
- Every layer is covered, from switches, Wi-Fi, routers and firewalls to storage, so a new-building project deals with one vendor and one point of responsibility.
- On large projects the cost per port and per AP is often lower than US brands at a similar specification.
- N1 licences are perpetual. If SnS lapses, the features you bought keep working; what you lose is upgrades and support.
- AirEngine offers a wide range of Wi-Fi 7 APs, including tri-radio models for crowded meeting rooms and halls.
- FusionSolar puts inverter, optimizers, battery and app under one maker, so when something goes wrong there is no finger-pointing between inverter and battery brands.
Things to know before choosing
- Huawei has been on the US Entity List since 2019. Some foreign parent companies, lenders and project funders have policies about the brand. Check before you write the specification.
- The licensing structure (N1, SnS, Foundation and Advanced) is complex. If the quotation doesn't itemize it, you can end up with a core switch missing features you need.
- Documentation and firmware for some international models trail the China market. Confirm that the models quoted are international versions supported in the region.
- In a mixed-vendor network, many iMaster NCE features only work with Huawei devices.
- LUNA2000 batteries and optimizers only work with Huawei inverters, and many settings are made through the FusionSolar app. Make sure the plant owner account is in your organization's name, not the installer's.
Using it in Laos
Huawei is well known in Laos because its equipment is common in the region's telecom networks and on public-sector projects. One result is that engineers with HCIA or HCIP certification are not hard to find.
What we see on sites:
- Government projects and new buildings: these are often specified as a package of core, Wi-Fi, firewall and storage. Check that licences and SnS are actually included in the quotation.
- Power: voltage sags and rainy-season lightning. Core switches and storage need dual power supplies and a UPS that can trigger a clean shutdown.
- Heat and dust: many provincial server rooms have no backup air conditioning, and storage tolerates heat far less than switches do.
- Ordering: usually through distributors in Thailand or the region. Large models and OceanStor are often built to order and take several weeks.
Sectors that fit: government, telecom, energy, education and Chinese-invested companies.
Compared with alternatives
H3C is another Chinese vendor with its own switches, Wi-Fi and HCI platform, a fit when you want virtualization without VMware. If your parent company or lender restricts the brand, Cisco or HPE Aruba are like-for-like alternatives. For small offices, Ruijie offers free cloud management and simpler setup. Pick Huawei when you want every layer from one vendor on a controlled budget.

FAQ
Our parent company is overseas. What should we check before choosing Huawei?
Ask your parent company's IT team, and check your lender's or project funder's conditions, for any list of banned brands or brands needing approval. This is about each organization's policy, not equipment quality. If there is no restriction, choose on technical merit.
What happens when the SnS on our Huawei switches expires?
N1 licences are perpetual, so the switch keeps working and the features you bought stay on. You lose software upgrades, security patches and remote support. For core switches we recommend keeping SnS active.
Our server room already runs Huawei. Should we use FusionSolar for solar too?
Not necessarily. FusionSolar is a separate system and doesn't integrate with your switches or iMaster NCE. Choose it when it suits the roof, for example a shaded roof that benefits from optimizers, or when you want LUNA2000 batteries for evening brownouts. We always quote Sungrow or another brand alongside for comparison.
Does iMaster NCE run on-premises or in the cloud?
It can be installed on your own servers, which suits organizations that need management data kept in-house. A cloud-hosted option exists in some regions; confirm with the distributor whether it is available for Laos. Small networks can be configured device by device without NCE.
