Canadian Solar
Canadian Solar is headquartered in Kitchener, Canada, but most of its module production is in Asia, and the group has a factory in Chonburi, Thailand. Its N-type TOPCon modules are sold as TOPHiKu (monofacial) and TOPBiHiKu (bifacial). It also makes the EP Cube home battery and SolBank for large projects.

Who it suits
Projects that want TOPCon modules from a US-listed maker with a factory in Thailand.
Overview
Who Canadian Solar is
Canadian Solar is headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, and is listed on the US NASDAQ exchange. Most module production is in Asia under its subsidiary CSI Solar, which is listed in Shanghai. The group has a factory in Chonburi, Thailand, and in late 2025 it restructured so that its US factories sit directly under the parent company.
Module lines
- TOPBiHiKu: bifacial, glass-glass N-type TOPCon modules for projects and factory roofs. TOPBiHiKu6 carries a 12-year product warranty and a 30-year power warranty. The CS6.2 version launched in 2025 reaches about 660 W and up to 24.4% efficiency.
- TOPHiKu: monofacial TOPCon modules, including all-black and smaller formats for house and commercial roofs.
Both lines in their "6" generation have a Pmax temperature coefficient of −0.29%/°C. Example: with cells at 60°C, output is about 10% below nameplate. That is better than older PERC modules, but a little behind the newest TOPCon modules from some brands at about −0.26%/°C.
Two warranties
The 12-year product warranty covers a module that fails because of manufacturing. The 30-year power warranty sets the first-year degradation and the maximum loss per year after that. Neither covers poor installation or external damage. Terms can differ by model and region.
Batteries
Canadian Solar also makes EP Cube (a LiFePO4 battery integrated with a hybrid inverter for homes and small commercial sites, with new versions launched in 2026) and SolBank for large projects. We have not seen EP Cube widely sold in Thailand, so for Laos we recommend batteries from brands with parts in the region.
Who it suits
Projects where procurement or a lender wants a maker listed on a US stock exchange with published financial reports, and customers who want modules that installers in Thailand already know well.
Strengths
- A US-listed company that publishes quarterly financial reports, so procurement can check the financial strength of the warrantor themselves.
- There is a factory in Chonburi, and Thai installers know TOPHiKu and TOPBiHiKu well, which makes regional replacements easier.
- The 12-year product and 30-year power warranties of TOPBiHiKu6 are stated clearly on the datasheet.
Things to know before choosing
- The −0.29%/°C coefficient of the 6 series is slightly higher than the newest TOPCon modules from some brands. In hot weather the gap is real but small; compare through a yield calculation.
- EP Cube and SolBank are not widely sold in Thailand. Do not expect to get battery and modules from the same brand for Laos.
- Modules made for the US and for Asian markets may carry different codes and terms. Check the model code and the warranty for our region.
Using it in Laos
For sites in Laos:
- Public and donor-funded procurement: when a funder asks for evidence of the maker's financial strength, Canadian Solar's public financial reports are easy to supply.
- Heat: leave an air gap under the modules and never mount them flush. Model heat losses with −0.29%/°C in the design, not the nameplate figure.
- Dust: bifacial versions collect dust on both faces. On ground mounts near dirt roads, clean the rear side once or twice a year as well.
- Delivery: modules come from Thailand. Check for breakage and serial numbers on delivery, and keep the Voc/Isc readings of each string from handover.
A fit for schools, office buildings, factories and funded projects. For backup during outages, see hybrid solar with battery.
Compared with alternatives
JinkoSolar Tiger Neo 3.0 and JA Solar DeepBlue 5.0 have a slightly better −0.26%/°C coefficient and are also easy to source in Thailand; pick them when yield per kWp is the main criterion. Trina Solar Vertex S+ suits house roofs that need a small glass-glass module. Choose Canadian Solar when the maker's financial transparency matters to the buyer.

Solutions that use this brand
FAQ
TOPHiKu or TOPBiHiKu: which one?
TOPHiKu (monofacial) suits house roofs and metal roofs with low-mounted modules. TOPBiHiKu (bifacial, glass-glass) suits ground mounts, carports or white roofs that reflect light onto the rear.
Can we use an EP Cube in Laos?
Technically it may work, but without a regional seller and service centre, warranty and parts become a problem. We recommend a hybrid inverter and battery that are sold and serviced in Thailand.
Does the 2025 restructuring affect the warranty?
The restructuring concerns the US factories. Your warranty is with the company named on the warranty document of the modules you buy. Check that name and keep the document with the invoice.
