Ruijie runs two lines: RG for enterprises and Reyee for small businesses. Both are managed free through Ruijie Cloud and a phone app, with no controller to buy.

Who it suits

Guesthouses, schools and cafes with 5 to 30 APs where the owner wants to check Wi-Fi status from a phone.

Overview

Who Ruijie is

Ruijie Networks is a Chinese networking company headquartered in Fuzhou, Fujian province. At home it is well known for school and university networks, and in Southeast Asia, Thailand included, it is growing fast among small and mid-sized businesses.

Two product lines

  • Reyee is the small-business line: RG-RAP access points (including new Wi-Fi 7 models such as the RG-RAP72 and RG-RAP73Pro released in 2025), PoE switches, and RG-EG routers and gateways. It can be set up from the Ruijie Cloud phone app in minutes.
  • RG (enterprise) covers RG-S switches from access to core, RG-AP access points for large buildings, and RG-EG gateways with security features. Big projects can use an on-site wireless controller.

Ruijie Cloud

The basic features of Ruijie Cloud are free for the life of supported devices: device registration, status monitoring, SSID setup, guest portal and usage statistics. There is no controller to buy and no yearly licence for basic management. An owner can see from a phone which AP is down or how many people are connected.

The ease has a trade-off: management depends on the vendor's cloud. Security researchers have reported several serious vulnerabilities in the Reyee cloud platform, and Ruijie fixed them on the cloud side quickly with no action needed from users. The lesson is to keep firmware updated and keep guest Wi-Fi separate from the internal network.

Ruijie fits guesthouses, schools, cafes and offices with roughly 5 to 30 APs, especially where the owner wants to check the Wi-Fi from a phone.

Strengths

  • Basic management on Ruijie Cloud is free with no yearly licence, so running costs after installation stay low.
  • Setup and monitoring work from a phone app, so a guesthouse owner or school manager can check things without calling a technician every time.
  • Wi-Fi 7 APs are available at SME prices, including dual-band models that don't need the 6 GHz band.
  • Reyee and RG sit under one brand, so a growing school can step up to enterprise models without changing vendor.

Things to know before choosing

  • Management depends on the vendor's cloud. When the internet drops the Wi-Fi keeps working, but you can't see or fix anything remotely. Vulnerabilities have been found in the Reyee cloud before, and were fixed.
  • Reyee is designed for small businesses. Buildings with hundreds of APs, NAC or complex routing should use the RG line or an enterprise brand.
  • Some foreign parent companies and funders have policies on Chinese vendors and on management data held in a foreign cloud. Check first.

Using it in Laos

In Laos, Reyee suits places the owner looks after: guesthouses in Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng, restaurants, private schools and small offices. Equipment is ordered through distributors in Thailand; popular models are usually in stock and reach Vientiane quickly.

What we see on sites:

  • Wooden guesthouses and old buildings: thick walls and metal roofs block signal. One AP per two to four rooms works better than one powerful AP in the lobby.
  • Power: evening voltage sags reboot the PoE switch and every AP goes down with it. A small UPS for the switch and router helps a lot.
  • Outdoor APs: rain and lightning. Use genuine outdoor models and add surge protection on long LAN runs.
  • Internet: use an RG-EG gateway with two WAN ports if you have two ISPs, so guests don't complain when one line drops.

Technicians who can set up Reyee are easy to find because setup is simple. The enterprise RG line needs more experienced engineers.

Compared with alternatives

TP-Link Omada covers similar ground and spares are easy to find in Vientiane IT shops, which matters if you need same-day replacement. Ubiquiti UniFi suits you if you want Wi-Fi, cameras and doors in one app. If the network grows and needs NAC, HPE Aruba is the next step up. Pick Ruijie when you want a free cloud and the owner wants to watch the Wi-Fi from a phone.

FAQ

Is Ruijie Cloud really free, or will they charge later?

Ruijie states that basic features are free for the life of supported devices. Some add-on services may be charged. For guesthouses and small offices the basic features are usually enough.

Does Reyee Wi-Fi keep working if the internet goes down?

Yes. The APs keep their config locally and continue to serve the local network. What stops is viewing and changing things through the app, and any guest portal that depends on the cloud.

Should our guesthouse buy Wi-Fi 7 APs?

Usually not. Your internet speed and the number of APs matter more than the Wi-Fi standard. If Wi-Fi 7 costs about the same as Wi-Fi 6, go ahead, but never cut the number of APs to afford newer models.
