Overview

Who LINK is

LINK is a LAN cable, fiber and connectivity brand that installers in Thailand and Laos know better than almost any other. The brand's website says it was founded in California, USA in 1991 and markets it as LINK American Cabling. In Thailand it is distributed by Interlink Communication PCL, stocked by almost every IT shop, and quick to bring into Laos.

The cables we use most

  • US-9106A: Cat6 UTP, 250 MHz, 24 AWG copper, CM jacket, 305 m reel. The everyday office cable.
  • US-9106LSZH: Cat6 with a low-smoke zero-halogen jacket for buildings full of people, such as hospitals, hotels and malls.
  • US-9116 ULTRA: Cat6 rated to 600 MHz, 23 AWG copper, in CMR or LSZH jackets, for jobs that want more headroom.
  • US-9106OUT: outdoor cable with a double jacket for buried conduit or runs outside the building.
  • US-9106MD: outdoor cable with a steel messenger wire for spanning between poles, for example to cameras in a car park.

The range also includes Cat6A, Cat5e, fiber cable, patch panels, patch cords, jacks and small racks.

What to keep in mind

LINK's real advantage is solid copper conductors, not the CCA (copper-clad aluminium) cable sold cheaply in the market. CCA heats up under PoE, breaks easily and often fails certification testing. The brand advertises a 30-year warranty, but the conditions depend on how the job is installed and registered. Compare cable types in our Cat6, Cat6A and fiber guide.

Who it suits

Offices, shops, hotels and small to mid-size CCTV jobs that need standards-compliant cable they can buy quickly.

Strengths

  • Easy to get: stocked by the distributor and IT shops across Thailand, and in Laos within days when a job runs short of cable midway.
  • Solid copper conductors rather than CCA, so PoE to cameras and access points runs without overheating and links pass testing more easily.
  • A cable for every condition: indoor CM, LSZH for public buildings, double-jacket outdoor, and messenger-wire cable for aerial runs.
  • Most installers already know the cable and its termination hardware, so no extra training is needed.

Things to know before choosing

  • Popular cable attracts fakes and CCA lookalikes with similar printing. Buy from trusted shops, check the jacket, and scrape a conductor to confirm it is copper all the way through.
  • The 30-year warranty has conditions. Get them in writing before you sign, and do not assume buying a reel of cable gives you a whole-system warranty.
  • Some foreign-owned or banking projects already name a cabling brand in their standard. Check the spec before proposing LINK.

Using it in Laos

LINK is the cable we find most often in offices, shops and CCTV jobs in Laos. Good cable does not guarantee a good job, though; what brings systems down is usually the installation.

What we commonly see on sites:

  • Indoor cable used outdoors: CM jackets crack within a few years of sun and rain. Use US-9106OUT or US-9106MD for pole-mounted cameras.
  • Runs longer than 100 m: PoE cameras drop in and out. Beyond that distance, use fiber or put a switch midway.
  • No labels and no testing: test every link and label both ends. See our network rack and labeling guide.

For camera jobs, work out the switch PoE budget with our PoE budget calculator before ordering. A 305 m reel arrives from Thailand within days, so there is no need to hold much stock.

Compared with alternatives

CommScope (SYSTIMAX) and Panduit are the choice when a project needs a manufacturer-issued 25-year system warranty backed by test results for every link, as in data centers and foreign-owned buildings, at a higher cost and longer lead time. Legrand suits jobs that combine building electrical and network work. For everyday offices and camera jobs, LINK gives genuine copper cable that is quick to source on a lower budget.

FAQ

How can I tell whether the LINK cable I bought is genuine?

Buy from a trusted shop or dealer and keep the receipt. Check the jacket printing is complete (model, category, AWG and metre markings). Scrape a conductor: solid copper is copper-coloured all the way through, while CCA shows silver inside. Where possible, test every link with a cable tester.

Should I choose US-9106A or US-9116 ULTRA?

For offices and typical cameras running Gigabit, US-9106A is enough. US-9116 ULTRA uses thicker 23 AWG copper and comes with an LSZH option, which suits runs close to 100 m or public buildings. If you need 10 Gbps to the desk, look at Cat6A.

What does the 30-year warranty cover?

The conditions depend on the product, the installer and project registration. Ask the distributor for the current terms in writing before work starts, and keep the test results for every link.
