Who Honeywell is today
Honeywell is a US industrial group. Over the past two years it has split off major businesses: advanced materials became Solstice Advanced Materials in October 2025, and aerospace became Honeywell Aerospace in June 2026. The remaining Honeywell focuses on automation, and its fire alarm brands sit in the Building Automation business. For users in Laos, the restructuring does not directly change the fire products.
Honeywell's fire alarm brands
Honeywell owns several brands that came through acquisitions, and each has its own panels and loop devices:
- NOTIFIER: addressable panels for medium and large buildings that can be networked together. The newer panel family is INSPIRE.
- ESSER: IQ8Control panels and IQ8Quad multi-sensor detectors that combine smoke and heat sensing in one head.
- Gent: the Vigilon system, common in buildings designed to British practice.
- Morley-IAS: small and mid-size panels, including the MAX range.
- VESDA: aspirating smoke detection, which draws air through sampling pipes and detects smoke much earlier than spot detectors. Honeywell gained VESDA by buying Xtralis in 2016, and VESDA-E units can connect directly to NOTIFIER panels.
Which system fits which building
A small building with a few zones is fine with a conventional system. Hotels, hospitals and high-rises should use addressable, because the panel tells you which room the smoke is in, not just which floor. Server rooms, electrical rooms and high-value warehouses suit VESDA, which can alarm while a cable is still smouldering, before there is a flame. More detail in our conventional vs addressable guide.

- VESDA picks up smoke at levels you cannot see and supports staged alarms: warn the IT team first, then raise a full fire alarm.
- Multiple NOTIFIER panels network together, which suits multi-building sites such as resort hotels or factory compounds.
- Panels can pass fault and alarm signals to a building management system and trigger actions such as shutting down air handling, releasing doors and recalling lifts, as designed.
选型前须知
- Each brand uses its own loop protocol. ESSER detectors don't work on a NOTIFIER panel and vice versa. Once you choose a brand, expansions and spares stay with that brand.
- Panel programming needs the brand's software and a trained engineer. Ask for the configuration file and panel access codes at handover so you are not tied to one installer.
- VESDA pipework must be designed with calculation software, and filters need periodic replacement. In dusty areas they clog faster than usual.
- The brand with distributors and trained engineers in Thailand may not be the one the designer specified. Check regional support before writing a brand into the drawings.

Honeywell fire equipment comes through distributors in Thailand. Common detectors and modules are usually in stock; panels and VESDA units usually need ordering, plus time for border clearance.
What we see on sites:
- Standby batteries: frequent brownouts wear panel batteries out faster than normal. Test them every year and replace them by age.
- Humidity and insects: in the rainy season small insects get into smoke detectors and cause false alarms. Clean and test detectors on a schedule.
- Factories and mines: dust or process fumes are wrong for ordinary smoke detectors. Use heat detectors or specialist types there.
- Server rooms: VESDA works well in air-conditioned rooms, where the air is clean and stable.
Good fits: hotels, hospitals, high-rises, banks, shopping centres and server rooms.

Honeywell is the only fire alarm brand on our list, so the real choice is usually between NOTIFIER, ESSER, Gent and Morley-IAS, based on the design standard and which engineers are available in the region. Systems that work alongside it: Bosch Security (Keenfinity) offers the PRAESENSA voice evacuation system, which takes signals from the fire panel, and APC NetBotz or Vertiv provide temperature and water-leak sensors for server rooms. Both complement a fire alarm system; neither replaces it.

常见问题
Should we choose conventional or addressable?
For a building with fewer than 8-10 zones and not many rooms, conventional is cheaper and simple to maintain. For hotels, hospitals or multi-storey buildings, addressable finds the source fast and cuts the time spent chasing false alarms.
Does a server room need VESDA?
It's not mandatory, but we recommend it where systems cannot stop. Strong airflow dilutes smoke, so spot detectors react late. VESDA samples the air and warns earlier, giving IT time to investigate.
Can new detectors be added to an existing Honeywell panel?
Yes, if it is the same brand and protocol and the loop still has free addresses and enough power. Send us the panel model and a photo of the panel front so we can check compatibility with current devices.
